I’ve been holding onto this secret for a very long time. Which has been hard because I don’t secret well. But to be honest, until today we didn’t really know if it was going to happen. Or any of the details of how it was going happen. And if I’m being even more honest, it still doesn’t feel real and we still only have a vague plan.
BUUUUUUT after 12 years, the LaGranges are leaving Utah. And we are doing it in the craziest, most 2020, most Covid inspired way ever.
You see, last year we had decided that our time in Utah had come to an end. This chapter was complete and we were ready to show our kids something new. Since we both worked from home, we had the world to choose from and had planned on checking out some places before making a decision.
And then Covid happened. So touring locations was no longer an option. And then it was one disaster after another. Earthquakes, rising case numbers, fires, freak wind storms, house damage from wind stroms, and I swear to god everything just started breaking in our house. We couldn’t tell if the universe was saying “get out of here quick” or “this is not the time” But we decided that we just needed a full restart. And we devised a plan to move during a pandemic as safely and responsibly as possible.
Moving during a pandemic has turned out to be one of the hardest, scariest, most uncomfortable times of my life. Having to ask people repeatedly to put on their mask or step back when coming into my house to make repairs. Juggling being on different floors of the house or outside when repairs were made. Our house also turned into a viewing hotspot and no one wanted to follow protocol for safe touring. To the point where I had to put up signs saying we were immunocompromised and to please wear masks, gloves, don’t touch things and for the love of god don’t let your kids play with our toys. And even then not all follow directions and we have to clean every surface after a viewer leaves. It’s been stressful. But all in the line of a safe sale for everybody. Pandemic house sales are strange times when you take it seriously.
The house has been on the market now for about 2 weeks. We’ve had around 50 groups come through but no offers yet. But we have decided to make our move the end of next week and wait out the sale at our new location.
We will be traveling in the Happy Glamper for safe, contactless travels to our new state. And when we arrive, we will be quarantined for two weeks at an RV park. We have houses in mind to look at but we can’t look until after quarantine and need our house to sell before buying. So in the meantime, we will be living RV style. And if we get out of this in one piece, I’m pretty sure we can do anything as a family. (also, if you know someone who needs a house with a lot of room and a super fun indoor pool to ride out the next pandemic wave, send them our way)
So, I’m sure at this point you are super curious where we will be calling home. And the answer is the beautiful, quiet, pristine forests of………
VERMONT!
