This moving thing has been an intense lesson in strength and patience. A lesson which I’m pretty much getting a solid C- at the moment.
Our offer on the house went through and we will likely get accepted. However, getting anything done at any sort of timely manner is like pulling teeth. Basically, our agent doesn’t expect anything to get done until sometime January. We are bustling to make calls and get things moving as fast as we can short of slipping Benjamin’s, but we are faced with the likelihood that we will not have a house for Christmas. And that idea breaks my heart in so many ways. Because this was in no way how this was supposed to go. But because we have hit snafu after snafu every step of the process, it’s all just taken too long. And on top of trying to get things moving with buying a house, we also need to find some place that will take 4 people and 2 cats with no furniture for a month or two so we can have Christmas. And our choices are very limited. But with the size of the RV, we have no room for any presents for the kids, or to wrap anything, or to even store gifts from family. And I have one who is still holding onto his belief in Santa. Just another hurdle to jump I guess.
We have been blessed with a few warmer days and we’ve tried to take advantage. On Sunday we decided to venture out on a hike. I wanted something with a waterfall and easy enough that we could be done before it got dark. AllTrails pointed us to one not too far away. Turns out it was a waterfall and trail in the middle of town from a water power factory built in the 1870s. Which wasn’t at all what I had in mind but still kind of cool and it was nice to get out.
The other day, we had a particularly rainy night. I woke to pants soaked through and I said to Tyler “either I’ve wet the bed or the RV is leaking”. Sure enough, the vent has started to leak. Not a huge problem if no rain. But last night, we had another full night of rain and we had to devise a leak preventer, macGuiver style. Well, as you can see from the pics, our invention was a little less MacGuiver and a little more trailer trash, but it kept me dry through the night.
And as we settled down to sleep, we were startled awake at around 2:30 to the sound of Donovan rolling of the bunk and landing 5 feet below. Other than being terrified (him and me both) he appears to have gotten by with only a couple bumps and bruises. But I reached my excitement limit for the night.
Hoping to have a better update for you next time. This one feels like a downer!
