Stories From Babbling Brook Farm

RV Memoirs: Here we go again…or not.

Dec 31, 2020 I thought it fitting to end the year with another installment of RV memoirs. Because the story goes on and 2020 in the RV wasn’t quite done with us yet. House still continues to sit waiting for us. We even tried to work renting out the farmhouse into the inspection negotiations, offering full background checks, cutting down repair fees considerably and offering to pay for all utilities. But they held their ground that they would rather the house sit empty than rent to us. Not only that, they were only going to pay for a portion of

Hotel Adventures: Hotel Christmas Eve!

Dec 24, 2020 Gathered all together in our king sized bed (who needs a bed this big really??) and watched a Christmas movie, ate white chocolate peppermint pancakes and hot cocoa for dinner and built a 2020 RV gingerbread house, with cats, a poop tube, and on fire!

Hotel Adventures: Making Due

Dec 22, 2020 Bad news on the house front. Appraisal isn’t happening until Jan 19th. Pushing our closing day to Jan 29th. Not ideal. Not ideal at all.  This news calls for fudge When life calls for fudge, and you don’t have a square pan, you improvise.   My daily walks here keep me sane. I love that I can continue walking even when it’s 30 degrees out. In Utah, my lungs would seize up so bad in the cold, it was hard to breathe. It’s amazing what a lower altitude and a little moisture in the air can do. Also,

Hotel Adventures: The “big” city

Dec 19, 2020 Ventured to the “big city” life in Burlington (biggest town in Vermont with a population around 40,000) for some socially distanced fun. We checked out the Vermont holiday lights train and then ventured down to historic Church street for some window shopping and eyeing the lights while sipping a Ben and Jerry’s hot cocoa!

Hotel Adventures: Christmas is Coming!

Dec 17, 2020 As temps hit -2 degrees last night thanks to a Nor’easter that came through, I finally understand the “cold” everyone describes Vermont as! Fortunately it’s not a consistent cold and will be warming back up to normal December temps for a bit!  But for now it means finding more things to keep me busy and pass the time indoors. Like reading!   Every year I try to grab a Christmas book to read during the holidays. This year I randomly came across a book about a woman living in a camper with her cats while her house

Hotel Adventures: Winter fun

Dec 12, 2020 Winter has arrived in Utah and I’m as happy as can be because I love December snow! The view out my hotel window in the morning of red buildings in the snow gives me pure joy. Utah house officially closed yesterday! One more step complete in this whole moving process! Gonna miss that pool house (I lived in a house with an indoor pool in the basement because unique houses are our jive) for sure but we have an awesome house wiring for us here in Vermont. Even when the majority of your friends are thousands of

RV Memoirs: the end of RV living… for now.

Dec 7, 2020 After cold, leaky nights, kids falling out of beds, hospital stays, and so much more, Tyler decided enough was enough. We held out like troopers (some better than others), we made it work as long as we could. But we desperately needed a little blessing in our lives.Tyler was able to find us a hotel with kitchen that allowed cats. We have one room for Tyler and me and the kids get the living area and that gives us a ton more privacy and space. Due to the 2 week quarantine mandate, the hotel is virtually empty. They

RV memoirs: the house

Dec 5, 2020 Got to go take a peek at the house again as they went through the first set of inspections. There will be things we will be working with the sellers with for sure. Mostly things typical of an older home. But we aren’t making a run for it. Here’s some pictures I grabbed of the house and the brook. Apparently getting older means trips to the er where the doctors say things like “gallstones” and “gallbladder removal” and you are pretty sure they must be in the wrong room because clearly you are too young to be worrying

RV memoirs: sometimes you just need a pity party

Dec 2, 2020 Thank you all for your support during last nights pity party. Sometimes you just need sometime to feel sorry for yourself before you can move forward. Today we came to a verbal agreement with the sellers and are just awaiting their signature on the contract. This property was an inheritance given to the owners 8 kids so we have to have signatures from 8 people at each point along the way. But they are due to have that all in by tomorrow. Today I was assigned to making phone calls to find inspectors that can get to

RV memoirs: desperation sets in

Dec 1, 2020 This moving thing has been an intense lesson in strength and patience. A lesson which I’m pretty much getting a solid C- at the moment. Our offer on the house went through and we will likely get accepted. However, getting anything done at any sort of timely manner is like pulling teeth. Basically, our agent doesn’t expect anything to get done until sometime January. We are bustling to make calls and get things moving as fast as we can short of slipping Benjamin’s, but we are faced with the likelihood that we will not have a house for
